MAN AND WOMAN IN MARRIAGE
Updated: Jan 22
I hardly talk about this, but the Bible is a complete book and talks virtually about every facet of life. Marriage is a union that involves three people –As opposed to what many think, that it is between just two people.
Marriage is a union between God, a man and a woman (see Ecc.4:9-12). With God as the head of the union, and the man His deputy. God designed this beautiful union for basically three purposes: (1) Partnership – fulfill God’s divine purpose, (2) Companionship, and (3) Procreation.
Marriage is supposed to be sweet and not a battlefield; this is not to say that there won’t be challenges. Any person, whether a Bishop or Apostle, who says “he’s never faced challenges in his marriage,” needs to ask God for forgiveness for lying. There will be challenges but they are not supposed to be insurmountable. When extreme problems such as constant violence or continuous promiscuity are involved, then somebody needs deliverance.
Apart from these extremes – with a simple understanding of the one you’re married to, marriage could be heaven on earth.
Men are independent beings who like to know that they are in charge of their marriage. They don’t want to be told what to do, especially from those that are under them.
That in mind, a wise woman can get her husband to do anything by acknowledging him as her head, and then presenting her desires as suggestions, and not directions.
In many African cultures, women used to sing the praises of their husbands, especially when he’s back from hunting, farming, attending the elders’ meeting, etc. –No wonder there was hardly any divorce. Today with civilization has come madness, where the woman thinks her husband doesn’t count.
NOTE: Respect and honor him as your head, and he’ll do anything for you.
To The Men
Who can find a virtuous woman? Proverbs 31:10 asks, and the answer to that question is; NO ONE. Virtuous women are not found BUT MADE. Women are multipliers. Whatever you give them, is what they’ll multiply and give back to you. If you give a woman a house, she’ll give you a home. If you give her money for groceries, she’ll provide you with food. If you give her seed, she’ll give you a baby. If you give her love and attention, she’ll give you joy and affection. But if you give her trouble, she’ll give you double trouble. Your woman will bear the name that you call her.
In Genesis 2:23, Adam saw Eve walking beside him when he woke up from his long sleep and the first thing he did was to give her a name. If you call her stubborn, one who nags or any other negative name – that’s what she’ll become. Even if she’s not what you expect her to be yet, do as Ephesians 5:1 says, “Imitate your heavenly Father”, who “calls things that aren’t apparent, as though they were” (Romans 4:17). Call her names by faith, and she will become what you call her.
With this knowledge and the Lord on your side, you can transform your marriage from something you endure to something you enjoy.
